Full Shingle Replacement

Richmond, Vermont — Residential

Location Richmond, VT
Type Residential
Material Architectural Shingles
Skylights 3 Units Re-flashed
Scope Full Tear-Off & Replacement
Project Overview

Skylights, chimney,
done clean.

This Richmond residence came to us with an aging shingle system and three skylights that had been a persistent leak source. We completed a full tear-off, replaced the entire roofing system with gray architectural shingles, and re-flashed every skylight curb and the chimney from scratch.

Skylights are one of the most common failure points on Vermont roofs — improper or deteriorated flashing lets water in at the curbs, and it often takes months before the leak shows up inside. New step flashing, counter-flashing, and sealant at all three units ensures this roof won't have that problem.

The job also included full ice & water shield at the eaves and valleys — critical for a home in Richmond where the Winooski River valley sees its share of freeze-thaw cycles and heavy early-season snowfalls.

  • Full shingle tear-off and disposal
  • Ice & water shield at all eaves and valleys
  • Synthetic underlayment throughout
  • Gray architectural shingles — full coverage
  • Three skylights fully re-flashed
  • Chimney counter-flashing replaced
  • New ridge ventilation
  • Full debris cleanup and haul-off

Flashing done
the right way.

Shingles
Architectural / Dimensional
Gray dimensional architectural shingles installed throughout — improved wind and impact resistance over the 3-tab shingles they replaced.
Skylights
3 Units Re-flashed
All three skylight curbs fully re-flashed with new step flashing, counter-flashing, and sealant — eliminating the leak paths that aging skylight flashing creates.
Chimney
Counter-Flashing Replaced
New step flashing and counter-flashing at the chimney base — one of the most common leak sources on older Vermont homes.
Ice Protection
Full Ice & Water Shield
Applied at all eaves and valleys — the first line of defense against ice dam infiltration in Vermont's freeze-thaw winters.
Underlayment
Synthetic Throughout
Synthetic underlayment over the full deck — stronger, more tear-resistant, and more water-resistant than traditional felt paper.
Ventilation
New Ridge System
Continuous ridge ventilation installed to balance attic airflow — reduces heat buildup in summer and moisture accumulation in winter.
